Marupa (Simarouba amara) is a Central American hardwood used in premium venetian blinds. It has a fine, even grain that stains beautifully and a density that gives the slats a solid, quality feel. It is more dimensionally stable than many softwoods used in budget blinds.
Marupa is a denser hardwood with a finer grain — it feels heavier and takes stain more evenly. Phoenixwood (basswood) is lighter and more affordable. Both are real timber.
NZ-made blinds typically have shorter lead times (2–3 weeks) and are manufactured to local quality standards. The Marupa range also uses a denser hardwood than most imported alternatives.
Important
Venetian blinds should be regarded as static blinds and only raised to clean windows and/or get to the window latch. Assist the lift by helping lift the bottom bar wherever possible.
