Description

Dual Blackout Roller Blinds — Day & Night

Overview

The Blackout Duo roller blind combines two fabric panels — a sheer sunscreen and a blockout — on a single bracket for day-and-night versatility from one blind. No need to buy separate blinds for different times of day.

Also known as dual roller blinds, double roller blinds, or zebra blinds, the duo system is one of the most versatile window treatments available in New Zealand.

Key features

During the day, use the sheer panel to filter light and reduce glare while maintaining outward visibility. At night, lower the blockout panel for full darkness and privacy. Both panels operate independently from the same headrail, keeping the window neat and uncluttered.

This makes the Duo an ideal solution for bedrooms, living rooms and any space where light needs change throughout the day. It also reduces installation complexity — one bracket instead of two.

The day-night functionality makes these blinds a popular alternative to separate sheer and blackout (blockout) blinds — combining both in a single custom-made unit that takes up less space.

Specifications

Dual-panel system with independent sheer and blockout rollers mounted on a single bracket. Blockout fabric provides 100% light block for sleep and privacy. Sheer fabric filters UV and glare while preserving views. Both panels regulate heat and help maintain a comfortable room temperature year-round.

How to order

Measure your window, choose your sheer and blockout fabric colours, and order online. The Duo blind is custom-made to your measurements and shipped throughout New Zealand.

Measuring & Installing Guides

Have a question about Roller Blinds?

A duo roller blind has two fabric rolls mounted on a single double bracket. Each roll operates independently with its own chain mechanism. You can lower the sheer panel for daytime light filtering or the blackout panel for complete darkness — or both at different drop heights.

Yes. Both panels operate independently, so you can lower the sheer to filter daytime light and also have the blackout partially lowered, or use them in any combination.

The double bracket adds minimal depth (approximately 15mm more than a single roller). It fits comfortably inside most standard window frames.

A Duo roller is more compact, cheaper, and quicker to install than two separate blinds. Both fabrics share one bracket, so you drill fewer holes and the finished look is neater.

“Zebra blinds” is a common name for dual roller blinds — two fabric panels (one sheer, one blockout) on a single bracket. The name comes from the alternating stripe effect when both panels overlap. NZ Blinds calls them Duo roller blinds.

A day-night blind combines two fabrics — a sheer for daytime light filtering and a blockout for nighttime darkness — on one bracket. It gives you both options from a single blind instead of buying two.

Blinds ordered at separate times may not colour match perfectly. We strongly recommend that all blinds for one room are ordered at the same time.
Blinds between 6sqm & 8sqm are more difficult to operate. They may be hard to lift & lower for users who are not physically strong. Roller tube deflection & fabric bagging may also be an issue.
Blinds over 8sqm are not within warranty. The tube will deflect and the fabric will bag. We recommend using a Link Bracket.
Mechanisms & Brackets– The standard mechanism is UNIFLEX in White, Black, Cream and Grey.
Bottom rails – Standard is for Dual Bottom rail with either the Curved or Flat side on the front of the blind. Dual Rail Colours are White, Black, Cream & Anodised.
Chains – Standard chains are Continuous Plastic Chains in either White, Black, Cream or Grey. Stainless Steel is available which attracts a surcharge.
